miQue
miQue（ミキュ）はMike Marques（マイク・マークス）による音楽プロジェクトである。Mikeは1976年シドニー生まれの30歳。天性の血のウネリと実験精神で、8歳の頃既に彼はペンキ缶とガラクタをコレクションしドラムキットを拵えて演奏し、奇天烈な音とリズムに踊り狂っていた。その後、グランジ世代の彼は他に漏れず十代の湧き出ずるエネルギーをバンド活動に注入し、音楽修行と人間同士の面倒臭くも楽しい諸々を経て、音楽に骨を埋めるべく、シドニーの大学に入学。大学では早朝にスタジオ使用の時間を与えられ、技術や知識を学ぶ。この密室で彼の音楽性はブクブクと発酵熟成しカフェインの練り込まれたコク深いエレクトロポップミュージックへと姿を変えていった。音楽学士を取得して卒業し、音楽、映画、アート等々、大の日本カルチャー通である彼は、一路、日本へ！現在は東京で音楽教師をする傍らmiQueとして制作に没頭するという24時間音楽尽くしの毎日を過ごしている。
彼のルーツである、フィールドサウンド採集、エレクトロファンク、骨董的映画音楽、doo wopソウルなどを、最終的にポップフィールドに昇華させ、緻密にアレンジされたトラックに、豪州産OORUTAICHIとでも言うべきウネリ狂うソウルフルなボーカルが乗るという摩訶不思議な楽曲は、まさに電子音楽界に新たな指針を示す傑作である！
これまでに、２００６年、Vaatican Records(フランス)のレーベルコンピレーションにシングル“Chikubi”を提供。同時に１１月、同レーベルより、初のE.P.をリリース。そして２００７年４月２９日、待望のフルアルバム”Le Petite Morte”が、奈良の異端音楽レーベル「scilli disques」×大阪を代表するエレクトロニカ・レーベル「Imagined records」のダブルネームによりリリースされる！
Mike Marques is a vocalist and composer with an ear for genre bending electronic music.
Born in 1976, Sydney, Australia
he has been fascinated with sound from an early age, building his first drum kit (from used paint cans) at the age of 8. He served time in a plethora of `teen rocking combos` that were invaluable in instilling a D.I.Y attitude towards making music. As an undergraduate at the University of Western Sydney, he was allocated studio time in the wee hours of the morning - it was here that he was exposed to various studio techniques and technology. Using this time he began recording track after track of caffeine fueled experimental electronic pop music.
After graduating with a Bach. Of Music, Marques (a.k.a miQue) relocated to Tokyo, Japan in 2003. Since arriving in Tokyo he has been involved with a diverse array of artists and groups as a vocalist, producer and composer. These have included collaborations & performances with theatre group Sin Titulo, dance ensemble Ju-gong, the Scilli Disques, Vaatican Records (FR), Imagined Records and Soundispatch labels as well as the regular Mode Down, Test Tone and imagined Communities events.
Taking inspiration from the kitsch to the perverse, miQue infuses his vocals & tightly arranged music with a love of juxtaposing unexpected sounds - everything from field recordings, stiletto-esque electro funk, antique film scores and scratchy doo wop soul are filtered through his `poptronica` sensibilities.
Live, miQue is a cabaret of snazzy punkmanship - bringing to mind `a bygone era of song and dance men gate crashing an electric hoedown`. Armed with a power book, a few microphones, an array of pedals and a versatile voice − miQue`s performances are an energenic, soulful and unpredictable affair.
In 2006 Vaatican Records (France) included miQue`s track Chikubi on their label sampler and released his debut E.P in November. Early 2007 will see the release of his highly anticipated full length release `Le Petite Morte` on Imagined Records & Scilli Disques (Japan).
